The Luxury

In my opinion a woman’s most valuable commodity is her time.  It is irreplaceable. There is nothing we can do to get back the hours, the minutes, the days even years lost. They are gone. Never to return. Yet somehow we are socialized to give it away and waste it.  We give our time freely without measure to the people we love, people we dislike,  to our work, to the television, to facebook, to strangers and to so many other things.

The older I get the higher the value of my time.  The same is true for you.  Your time is worth a whole lot. The years just blow by, suddenly the ages that end in 5 or 0 seem to be the ones that are counted, leaving the years in between foolishly without a purpose.  Hours for restorative sleep are cheaply traded for shows without substance…my tone is different about this because as women we don’t have much to waste and yet we choose, time and time again, to waste time.  Our very precious time.

I am working through my own issues with time as I try to accomplish things for myself and for the people I love while juggling around everything else.  I am getting better with ‘purposeful time allocation’, a term I came up up with to answer a very simple question about the use of my time:  is this serving me? Does this serve my goals, my loves, my health, my soul, my financial well being? If the answer is no to more than 2 of those questions, STOP. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. The minutes that fill our days are valuable. Sacred little opportunities to be who you need  to be and do what you have to do. Make more of an effort to not take your time for granted. Gently teach others that your time is not for the taking. It is not to be discounted nor negotiated for a lower price. Your time. All of our time is very expensive.

It is, after all, a luxury.

Light & Love,
Alicia.

    Dear Alicia:
I woke up to your SSK post this morning and smiled because it is perfectly timed.  It was just what I needed.  At 54, I believe that I have maybe 40 more summers left, but this post also makes me realize that I only have to-day.  My time is precious.  I will remember to ask myself those 5 questions - Does this serve my goals, my loves, my health, my soul, my financial well being?  Thank You for reminding me to treasure my time to-day.
    Jo-Anne
